The Crowe´s
Perch History!
Hi mates!
How you doing?
As The Perch is growing so much in the last times, I´d like to know
if it´s possible for you to make me a quick site´s history.
I know that it exists since 1999.
Can you help me with that?

the warmth he has inside him. I see bud because he makes me feel
like Lynn Bracken and not some Veronica Lake. I see him because
he doesn´t know how to disguise who he is."

Petshark is
the best source of info...
I found the Perch not long after Mystery,
Alaska was released (September 1999)
but didn't start posting until I got a cable modem in June 2000.
There are very few of the original founding members left...it could
be "just Petshark" for all I know. I think a few may lurk
from time to time. (Hi! >> waiving to all <<) Maybe
some can correct me if I'm wrong.
In the beginning the regulars had a running "fairy tale"
story that as I recall may have featured most if not all of them.
The Perch moved over to the EZBoard format around August / September
2000 and the old board (same format as the Purple Board) was eventually
discontinued.
Dunno what more I can add...

Oh my... a
history?
Lol, I suppose this is one case where we really should say herstory
The board started sometime around 9/99 on the old InsideTheWeb host,
which lasted for quite a while. I moved us to EZ Board because I
thought it would be harder to start flame wars when the topics were
all broken up (the old format was just one board.) Oh well, I think
it helped. Also, this had search functions and editing options that
the old one didn't have so I thought it was cool. Then InsideTheWeb
went bust and so I was very happy we had already moved here.
I met the first Perchettes on the RstCa board and invited them to
come see my new site and play on my board. They were unusually witty
and well-informed folks who had a good time and drew folks in that
way. They even went out to other boards and invited people to come
so they were a tremendous help getting the board rolling. We got
the predictable flack from some more territorial webmasters, but
the old "ignore" system worked and we carried on despite
the grumps.
I still hear from some of those first Perch Goers but most don't
post here anymore... I think what drew them to the Perch in the
first place was its small, intimate population which was quite unlike
the virtual metropolis it has become. Of course, the big boom was
in May 2000. We all know what happened then! C'est la vie, the general
rule in business and the web is grow or die....
Oh well. We did have a forum fairytale which was a lot of fun and
I have it somewhere still, but it became a hassle to manage (it
had to be copied regularly from the message board and reposted for
archiving, which 4tune did for us.) It was a somewhat labor intensive
thing, but certainly something I would encourage a budding board
manager to consider. Gives people a chance to go crazy, and it can
be quite challenging if you keep it PG... makes the imagination
work, you know
We have seen a lot of wierdness, but we're still here so I guess
people are having fun
A long time ago, I pillaged the Anime sites to build a mock portrait
of some of those first Perch-goers. Keep in mind I had never seen
or met any of them, knew nothing except that one said she was a
blonde... anyway, brings back memories:

Re: Oh my...

Dear Petshark,
OMG, you were faster than me ....
Thanks a lot for the history ....
Very elucidated .....and a great opportunity for the new Perchttes
to know the "E! True Hollywood History - A Perch is a born".
I´m curious to know if there would have also some interesting histories
that occurred here at the Perch?

Interesting
histories?
You mean like memorable fights? Or scandals? Well, could be but
I am not going to be the one to bring them back to life

The only thing
I can think of isn't native to this board
The term "fru" for picture came from the Highlander message
board, was brought over by someone I knew from that cyber-village.
Anyway, it came from someone's husband who had seen his wife gawking
at pictures of the actors there. He called his wife and cyber-company
"frufru-floozies". I guess he meant that the pictures
were a little "fru fru" for a message board, more fluffy
than he thought was appropriate
