I thought I'd try this and see how it goes, see if any of you are good enough to carry this little story. In a kingdom far far away oh let's say Oz lived a prince, he wasn't your average prince. Oh his name Russell, anyway he had a fiery temper and a black as nite steed, he enjoyed on occasion going to the pub and singing with his friends.

Russell went a bit (or a lot) crazy and got into real trouble. Prince Terry, his brother, took him back to the farm where Russell, still consumed by rage, would not listen to reason, locking himself in his room only to emerge to tend to and converse with, his animals.

A fortnight went by; little by little, Russell realized he had to control this anger within. How to go about it, however, remained a mystery to him. He cried, reflected and asked the stars above for an answer.

One day, as he swam in the pond, his favorite platypus nudged him and said: "....

I traveled to Hawaii, and the coasts of the Pacific Northwestern US, I bore the marks of many battles on my splendid thick skin, and I feared no whalers, no fishermen, I snacked on rubber-clad surfers and cleaned my teeth with surfboards. I ate little fish, big fish, seals and old tires. I was invincible and blessed with no conscience or intellect to know good from bad, in either taste or moral judgment, and so I was absolved from guilt and responsibility. Then one day I met a school of dolphins, and they said they had heard such tales of my exploits, they wanted nothing but to be in my esteemed company for a while..."

"And? And what then, Mr. Platypus?" asked Russ.

"Like I said, I had neither brains nor discretion enough to see through their malicious plot... I tried to bite them."

"And?" asked Russell.

"Like I said," repeated the platypus, "that was a past life. But that Psychic Friends network is still after me for the bill."

OK Katrina: give it a real try now, that entry does not count. You are so funny and you write well, and I am sure you know some platypuses in person LOL.

Who knows how will it come out if we all give it a real try? Maybe we can send it to Russell! We might have a script!

Russell stepped out into the light with the stranger and to his amazement, she was the most captivating woman he had ever seen.

She stood almost as tall as him with long, soft flowing black hair that reached down low on her back, she smelled like the flowers in the meadow. He was mesmerized. She did not speak, she just reached out and gently stroked his face. She moved closer to him until their bodies touched then lightly caressed his lips with hers. Still she did not speak. Prince Russell was mesmerized, he had to know who this raven beauty was and asked again.

Her reply was to walk over, pick up his guitar and start to strum it softly. When she sang, Prince Russell was captivated with the splendor of her voice, he fell in love instantly.

The animals gathered around her, they were as enchanted as the Prince was. When she finished her song, she reached over and stroked the head of a wild stallion Prince Russell had attempted to capture and tame without success. The stallion nuzzled her, with total trust. She led him to Prince Russell, and the stallion in turn nuzzled him knowing that this woman would show herself only to kind, gentle people.

She turned away and started to walk back into the night. "Wait! What is your name?" cried Prince Russell. She glided back over to him and grazed her lips across his ear and whispered...Tune. She then melted into the night. Prince Russell ran after her but it was too late, she had disappeared.

Prince Russell said out loud..."How 4Tuneate that I have fallen in love with such a beauty, I must find her or die from loneliness."

With a last glance at the darkness, Prince Russell inhaled the lingering smell of her and softly whispered, "Tuuuunnne."

Heartbroken, Prince Russell walked backed to towards the farm. The stallion followed him, gently nuzzling him but Russell didn't notice. Sadness enveloped him, tears welled up as he repeatedly asked to the wind and the sky above: who was she, why had she left him?

So many emotions stirred within! The incident at the pub still haunted him, he was not proud of had had happened but he had not faced whatever it was that, so often, moved him to lose control and behave in such a way. And then...the stranger in the meadows...happiness seemed to have touched him and then left him, bewildered and sad.

All of a sudden, he found himself back by the pond. His faithful friend, the gentle platypus, looked at him from the edge, and softly beckoned. With a deep sigh, Russ took off his boots, sat back by the water's edge and wiggled his toes in the water...

and dreams.

At first, Prince Russell is filled with troubled dreams . . . tigers in enclosed spaces, men in gladiator dress; both chasing him and threatening his very existence. Finally, those dreams fade and he is back with the platypus at the pond swimming. The platypus is speaking to Prince Russell, but he cannot make out the words from across the pond. As he gracefully glides through the water towards the platypus, he hears the platypus say "tune."

Prince Russell stops swimming in surprise and gives his new friend, the platypus, a heated look. "What did you say?" the distraught prince asks. The platypus repeats the mystical word and disappears under the water, leaving Prince Russell to grow more and more frustrated as he swims back to the edge of the water.

Rising from the water, Prince Russell looks back towards the point where he last saw the platypus and sees the beautiful, black-haired Tune breaking through the surface. "Wait," Tune calls out to the ruggedly handsome prince "I am here to tell you something important about your future."

Bewildered, Prince Russell stares at the vision and begins to move back into the water. Urgently Tune pleads, "No, please stay there. If you come towards me, I will disappear. The Christmas spirits have sent me to you as a vision of Christmas future. Happiness with a loved one is on your horizon, but you must first face your past and let it go. You are a bright light. Your passion for living and your talents are a gift given to few. Embrace them without the shadows of the past and you will experience joy without bounds."

Just as Prince Russell is about to ask his beloved Tune how to do this, a soft tongue on his cheek awakes him. Looking up through sleep-filled eyes Russell finds his trusted mate and dog, Lucy, happily licking his face. Sitting up, Russell stares out into the pond and finds no trace of Tune or the platypus.

He grabs Lucy and gives her a quick, playful hug while thinking about . . .

Still…his thoughts kept returning to Tune throughout the day. He longed to see her again, to kiss her, to embrace her. Could it all have been a dream? All he had to do was look over to the stable yard where the stallion was now kept. Everything about the stallion reminded him of Tune. It was as black as her hair and when the stallion ran, it's mane reminded Russell of the way Tune's long hair stirred when the wind blew through it.

While brushing the horse down that evening, he wondered what he should name it. He couldn't call it horse, he was too precious a gift to not give it a proper name. He decided to name the horse Night's Fortune, Night for short. After all, last night was a most fortunate night…

Prince Russell decided to skip dinner, it was not food he hungered for. Instead, he decided to sit outside to cool off…it was hot again this evening. It has been a week since Tune came to him that fateful night. Every evening since he waited for her to come to him again, every time the leaves rustled he turned to see if it she had come back, but she never did.

He sat there looking up to the stars feeling lonely and frustrated. He had not been to a pub since the last time when he had ended up in a brawl. Russell decided to go into town. Maybe being around people again will help fill some of the void in his heart.

The breeze shifted as he sat up. The scent of flowers from the meadow drifted over and suddenly he heard a familiar voice whisper into his ear.

"I thought you might like a moonlight picnic by the pond."

Prince Russell slowly turned, afraid he would scare her off if he moved too quickly. There she was holding a basket filled. Surprised but overjoyed to see her, all he could say was "Yes, I'd like that, but wait." He went back into the house and when he emerged, he gallantly took the basket from her hand. They walked slowly down to the pond in silence, content to just be with each other.

He took the blanket out of the basket and spread it on the ground. As Tune went about unpacking the meal, Russell pulled out the candles he had grabbed when he went back into the house and lit them. The light from the candles embraced them both and the world around them no longer existed.

He wanted to know where she lived, why she left so suddenly, why she came to him the other night.

"It was fate," was all she told him. She asked how the stallion was doing, was he taking good care of him? They talked for hours until finally they lay down on the blanket together and looked up to the stars in silence. After a while, they fell asleep next to each other, embraced in each other's arms.

When Prince Russell woke the next morning, Tune was gone. In her place was a single daisy. He reached over to where she slept and it was still warm from her body…

At that moment, Tune rolled over on her back and smiled at him in such a way he dropped to his knees. She hadn't left him after all! In a moment he had joined her in the coolness of nature and promised that this time, he wouldn't let her out of his sight! Nor out of his reach as they embraced once again...

Prince Russell pulled Papeek behind him to protect her from this snarling beast only to find that the tiger just yawned and stretched as if it had just awoke from a sound sleep. The powerful tiger suddenly realized that he was not alone.

In a dignified voice it said, "Pardon my intrusion, I just had to convince a couple of blokes to drop me off. There I was, having a nice sleep under a tree in the jungles of India and the next think I know, I was in this thing the blokes called The Falcon. It was a very odd place. Oh, forgive me. Let me introduce my self, I am Ashtrakian, and who might you two be?"

Russell and Papeek stood there stunned for a moment before speaking. "This is Papeek and I am Prince Russell. How is it you can speak?"

Papeek stepped forward and asked, "What was that thing you fell out of, and who was in that thing?"

Ashtrakian chuckled understanding how these two humans would be so perplexed. "I am glad to meet you Lady Papeek, Prince Russell. The Falcon is a spaceship from a planet far, far away. The captain, Han Solo, thought I was his friend Chewbacca, so he beamed me up to the spaceship. I was on the ship before the captain realized I was a tiger. They put an implant in me so that I can understand and speak a variety of languages. I got along with the captain fine, but that Chewbacca, he is a hard one to get along with…always howling about things and such, we were forever fighting. I finally convinced the captain to set me down in India but they had trouble opening the hatch. Chewbacca finally opened the hatch and dropped me down here….where am I by the way? This doesn't look like India."

Back in the Roman era, where man and beast were mixed unnecessarily, was born a tiger of mysterious lineage. In the wild in those days, rumors were that men were capturing all strong animals and using them for their own pleasure. Staging fights between slaves and beasts, kill or be killed. Beastly indeed.

One day in the den of lions, a tiger appeared most seemingly out of thin air. Since there were no tigers in the den to bear him, the men eyed him wearily wondering where he came from. He was large for a tiger, extremely lean and muscular, with a shiny glow that radiated from his coat. All the lions retreated from him. They seemed to see something the men did not and they stayed away, out of his path. The men liked the look of the strange tiger and thought he would make an aggressive adversary. So one day when they had a new slave in the Coliseum, they sent for the tiger to be his opponent. It was a day that would change Rome forever....

Prince Russell felt a great relief. He looked forward to spending days of ease and decadence with this grateful maiden, he felt such an anticipation that it tingled from toes to finger tips and up through his scalp...
"Hold on," he thought, "what's that tugging at my nerves, what is going on... what is that bright light.... ouch!" He yelled into the void as he felt himself pulled and prickled and hurtled through he did not know what.
The discomfort ended, or subsided. There was something prickling under his arms, a stiffness in his chest, a blinding light before him, his feet hurt...
As his vision adjusted he could make aout a sea of faces staring at him, each with an expectant look, hovering above tuxedos and shimmering gowns. They were seated in a theatre, he was on stage, a man in tights was posturing ridiculously to his right, holding a hand out to him. The man in tights shook his hand as if in encouragement. The prince looked again at the audience, then became aware again of the tightness, the stiff discomfort that assailed his torso and...

"Oh man, what *is* that?" he asked, looking down below his waist where something was crushing the future of his family name...
Prince Russ was wearing a tutu.
Deciding that in this case, standing his ground may not be the better part of valor, (and besides, who can be valiant in a tutu?) he ran from the stage, pushed his way past the crew and frantic hands out to assist or stop him, he knew not which. He found a door and dashed through it. He looked around for an exit, but the room was windowless and cluttered with costumes, makeup, dressing table. Above the dressing table was a most horrifying sight, a mirror, yes, it was a mirror, he realized as he approached it, as it mirrored his movements. In the mirror he saw reflected not a man ludicrously garbed in a fuscia tutu but a stick thin girl. Someone banged on the door.
Druscilla, what is the matter? What do you mean running offstage like that?"
"Oh boy," was all the prince could say.

Prince Russell/Druscilla looked at the mirror again and there he/she saw, right behind him/her, a familiar face: it was the psychiatric veterinary from Transylvania which had been recommended by his fellow horse-breeder, petshark.
"Dr. Timboktu", exclaimed Russ/Druscilla, "what are you doing here... do you know who I really am?" The good doctor, dapper and limber in spite of his advance age of 123 1/3 years, replied, a smile in his still handsome face: "Yes, my child, you are Russell, the prince from OZ".

"Oh, mate, am I glad to see you and hear those words" exclaimed the prince/ballerina in his thickest Aussie accent. "I know it is animals you treat doc but, do you think you can help me?", pleaded Russ/Druscilla.

"And what would you imagine that help to be, my dear prince?", answered the old gizzard.

"Well, obviously, I would really like my...er... manhood back the way it was, mate!!!" Retorted the prince/ballerina, a note of exasperation creeping into his voice.

"But, don't you want to know how and why you find yourself in this predicament, my child?", answered Timboktu.

"I figure the explanation can wait until I am back to normal, mate", replied Russ/Druscilla, now wondering if the old doctor was just playing games with him and was not or perhaps ("no, do not think that!") COULD NOT restore him to his virile former self.

"I am afraid, young prince, that even though I can undo the spell that terrible tiger cast on you, it is not time to do so yet. There is a mission for you here, a mission of the utmost importance which you can only undertake as Druscilla, not as Prince Russell. In this mission rests the future of your kingdom. Come, let's go have a pastrami on rye at Katz's, the best deli in New York and I shall explain".

With that, Dr. Timboktu grabbed the dainty ballerina by her delicate hand and, putting a coat over her shoulders guided her to the stage door. With a sigh, Russell/Druscilla did as the doctor said, meekly asking: "Can I have a couple of beers also?" "No beer. You must think of your figure", replied Dr. Tomboktu sternly.
